I love the framing around 1:10 with the sailors walking in file behind Luke. Subtle and perfect.

one of the best scenes ever put to celluloid. This has happened to me before and wes captured the feeling perfectly

From :38 to 1:24 have to be 46 seconds worth of the most well conceived and executed matching of image and sound used to convey emotion ever committed to celluloid.

I can’t believe how good each shot in this film is!

I like how Wes uses silence to accentuate the impact of the music. Like in this scene and the “Needle in the Hay” when Dudley screams.

Such a surreal, relaxed, and focused scene. An amazing directorial job by Wes Anderson. He captured the moment perfectly. Gwyneth Paltrow’s performance is so natural in it as well as Luke Wilson, surprisingly. But Paltrow…while I’m not a big fan of hers, she definitely earned my respect as an actress with her role in ‘The Royal Tenenbaums.’

Exactly. So why in the world would they cast a racist Black guy like Glover for that role?

  25. Sue71 on November 22nd, 2009 4:49 am

I thought Danny Glover’s character was so sweet and charming around Angelica Huston’s character and the only real sanity that the family had. Great choice, IMO.
